Description

Flüssiges Holz (Liquid Wood) – ARBOFORM®, ARBOBLEND® und ARBOFILL® – Green materials made from renewable resources replacing petroleum-based plastics. Motivated by the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Jürgen Pfitzer and Helmut Nägele began their search for CO2 reduction potentials in the plastic industry at Fraunhofer ICT in 1996. With their groundbreaking invention “Flüssiges Holz (in English: Liquid Wood -ARBOFORM®,' they founded TECNARO GmbH in 1998 from scratch (annual turnover in '98 = €0!), as one of the first spin-off companies of the Fraunhofer Society. The goal then and now is the development, production, and distribution of the lignin-based bioplastic 'Liquid Wood' ARBOFORM®, as well as the other TECNARO materials ARBOBLEND® (Biopolymer compounds) and the natural fiber-reinforced composite material ARBOFILL®." Liquid Wood is composed of 100% renewable resources and is biodegradable. A key component of this material is lignin, the second most abundant polymer in nature after cellulose. Lignin is a byproduct of the pulp and paper industry, with a global annual production of approx. 50 million tons. When combined with natural fibers like flax, hemp, or other fiber crops, along with natural additives, it results in a processable fiber composite material that can be molded into shaped parts using plastic injection molding machines under increased temperature and pressure. TECNARO not only convinces with modern environmentally ethical solutions but also with tangible, superior bio-material solutions that penetrate the market in competition with major chemical plastic producers. Over 5,700 formulations have been developed for various series applications. TECNARO Granules are transformed into filaments for yarns or 3D printing, films for products like bioplastic bags, profiles, sheets, bottles, or diffusion-proof bio-coffee capsules „TERRACAPS“ featured in TV commercials by MyCoffeeCup. Additionally, they produce materials for the HANNOCCINO coffee-to-go bio-cups for the entire Hannover region, and the MAIN Becher cup for the entire Frankfurt region. They are also responsible for creating the world's first complete casing for an electric household appliance – the Mockmill grain mill. Renowned companies like Gucci (EcoPump), Benetton (B-Green), Friedwald (Urnen), Edding (ECOLINE), or UHU (ReNature) rely on TECNARO quality. TECNARO‘s climate-neutral bio-materials are nearly infinitely available, contrary to petroleum-based plastics. They are technically at least equivalent and, therefore, have the potential to sustain the plastic industry as a key technology even in the post-oil era, serving as a sustainable source of bioplastics." TECNARO is thus a significant pioneer and ranks among the technology leaders in the global bioplastic compound industry. In 1998, Procter and Gamble secured their inventions with over 15 patent families and The distinctive environmental ethics are evident in numerous public statements made by the founders of TECNARO and in their actions.
