Tocco report: PFAS-FREE 2030 Special Report
Life after PFAS: Evidence x Suppliers x Scale x Timeline
Rain slid off jackets, oil glided off pans, and PFAS quietly became the chemistry of modern life. For decades, these “forever chemicals” shaped everything from firefighting foams to semiconductors, until their endurance turned from marvel to menace. Regulators have now drawn the line: Europe’s REACH covers nearly 10,000 compounds, the U.S. EPA has set single-digit nanogram limits for drinking water, and Canada, Australia, and Japan are following suit.
Industry, meanwhile, faces a paradox, how to abandon persistence without sacrificing performance. Short-chain and “safer” PFAS variants are under review, while fluorine-free coatings, silicones, and ceramics race to fill the gap.
This report by the Tocco team charts that transition: mapping regulations, measuring claims, profiling verified suppliers, and quantifying the global move from lab innovation to market reality. Every figure is sourced, every claim tested, no rhetoric, no greenwashing.

Fjällräven - Waxed Alternatives to Fluorocarbons (2015)
In 2015, Fjällräven became one of the first outdoor brands to fully eliminate PFAS, replacing fluorocarbons with Greenland Wax, a paraffin and beeswax blend, and Bionic-Finish® ECO on select fabrics.
The transition began with a 2012 corporate ban and was verified by third-party audits. While the wax requires periodic reapplication, customers embraced it as a fair trade for transparency and safety.
