Tocco Report: FIBRE & FABRICS FUTURE 2025 EDITION

New Threads: Rethinking Fibres in a Bioeconomy

The $1.3 trillion textile industry is at a turning point. Fibre production is surging, but so are its environmental costs—massive waste, carbon emissions, and microplastic pollution. In response, innovators are rethinking materials and supply chains, from lab-grown leathers to carbon-capturing fibres and sensor-woven textiles. As policymakers and consumers demand accountability, the fabric of the industry is being rewoven.

This report by Tocco Editorial team explores the unfolding transformation—spanning renewable bio-based materials, circular production loops, advanced textile technologies, and the new business ecosystems knitting it all together.

What's inside?

Vollebak’s graphene‑coated jacket—launched in 2018—is a reversible nylon garment treated with a nanoscale polyurethane‑graphene membrane. It doesn’t add weight, yet imparts electrical conductivity, enhanced thermal regulation (warming skin by ≈2 °C), waterproofing, and reversible styling. While not bulletproof yet, it's designed as a first step toward “bionic” clothing capable of intelligent functions and ballistic protection.
