Byers Gamber crafted a 14-foot boat from a wild polypore mushroom (Ganoderma sp.) grown over a hemp substrate in a two-part mold. After four weeks of growth and beeswax sealing, the boat weighs 72 pounds and is seaworthy. With plans to cross the Catalina Channel, his work seeks to mix artistic research with material innovation for sports equipment.
